In 2021, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center received thousands of fraud complaints from victims over the age of 60, resulting in $1.7 billion in losses. For individuals, the financial stakes can be high: during the same time period, the FBI says the average loss per victim was more than $18,000.
